style inspiration: clémence poésy

I've had a little bit of a girl crush on French actress Clémence Poésy ever since I saw her in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter is one of my many guilty pleasures along with Gossip Girl, as you can see above).  She has this way about her that is completely enchanting - a certain je nais se quoi one might say.  She is obviously beautiful, but it's the grace she exudes that really gets me.  Her style is undeniably French; she works that balance of looking absolutely amazing, but never appears overdone.  Seriously, how amazing are her looks in these photos??  Also, Vanity Fair just featured a great article on Clémence about her role as James Franco's girlfriend in the new film 127 Hours.  They note that she is not only gorgeous, but an absolute sweetheart.  I love hearing things like that.  Hopefully you draw some inspiration from this girl's amazing style - I know I will.

lanvin for h&m

The lookbook from the much anticipated Lanvin for H&M collaboration has been released - and needless to say, I'm in love.  Alber Elbaz's incredible designs for the oldest existing fashion house are now available at a price that all can enjoy, and they are nothing short of stunning. The feminine, flowy cut of the dresses are balanced out by intense colors, edgy accessories, and killer shoes (Um, did you see the red pumps with the ankle strap? AMAZING).  I absolutely can not wait to get my hands on some of these pieces on November 20th. But until then, here's a little taste..

over the knee obsession

The over-the-knee boot trend first hit the fashion scene about two years ago, but only slightly began to catch on commercially last year.  This season, however, they are the must-have boot for fall and winter.  You can find them at most retail stores in an array of colors, styles, and price points - and I couldn't be happier.  They can vamp up an outfit without being too over the top (a la Pretty Woman), and really add a lot of style without looking like you're trying too hard.  These boots are best paired with a more conservative piece on top such as a slouchy tunic along with either a fitted mini skirt, skinny jeans, or leggings.  A chic sweater dress is also a great option.  However you pair it, these boots are sure to be the main attraction.  Happy Shopping!

After all the madness that goes along with fashion month week, most people tend to completely focus on the amazing looks from the runway and forget about the other artistic elements that were meticulously chosen to make a show.  To me, a fashion show is like installation art - you're supposed to feel like you are completely immersed into another world.  Because of this notion, designers choose amazing music that goes along with the mood of their line, and StyleCaster has compiled a mix of some of the best songs featured in New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011.  You can download the mix here for free. As far as fashion goes, my current obsession residing at the top of my Little Love List is the olive/leopard/black combination.  When it comes to bold prints and colors, a little goes a long way for me.  I tend to stick with neutrals and earth-tones for the most part, then spice it up with a striking bag, a little embellishment here & there, or a sky high platform.  This little ensemble is my dream - a perfect mix of edgy/sexy & classic/trendy styles (sorry if that sounds off.. I have a hard time putting my personal style into words).  I'm already a proud owner of the Jessica Simpson "Dany" platforms, but the olive green Alice + Olivia dress and Jimmy Choo leopard clutch will just have to wait.. Hopefully not for too long!

Gossip Girl can definitely be categorized as one of my many, many guilty pleasures.  Everything from the fashion, the hair & makeup, the set decor, and the beautiful cities featured in GG inspire me - and last night's episode, "A Touch of Eva," was no exception.  

One of the many things that stood out to me in the episode was the necklace that Serena wore with her stunning red evening gown.  It was a glamorous mess of tangled gold chains that would compliment an array of outfits, but probably worth a few too many paychecks for my liking.  Luckily for us non-residents of the Upper East Side, I actually found a necklace very similar to Serena's for a much better price while shopping last week.  Funny thing is, I was wearing the statement piece while I watched the episode.. Talk about a nice surprise!

french vogue's 90th anniversary party

For my first "non-introductory" post, I thought it would be fitting to feature an event that involves WAY too many of my favorite things.  
To celebrate French Vogue's 90th anniversary, Carine Roitfeld, the magazine's editor-in-chief, hosted "Eyes Wide Shut" - an incredibly opulent ball named after Stanly Kubrick's last film before his death.  Every stylish guest arrived dramatically masked, and most of them were in spectacular avant-garde ensembles.  It was pure Parisian fashion heaven.  It's pretty sad to think about what crazy things I would have done to attend that ball! 

Little Love List:

1. French Vogue is amazing.

2. The event was held at the Hotel Pozzo di Borgo, an early 1700's hotel on the Left Bank (the artsier-side of Paris.. Ooh la-la).

3. They honored an amazing film directer with the name of the gala.

4. So many famous models, designers, and fashion big-wigs were partying together, that the photos from the ball provide endless eye-candy.

5. The event simultaneously celebrated the spooky fall season as well as the always remarkable Paris Fashion Week.

6. Tons of noir, noir, NOIR(the color that you'll quickly see is my favorite hue for clothing. It's classic, but edgy. It makes you look pulled together, yet it's effortlessly chic. I simply can't get enough of it.)!

7. Um, who doesn't love the mystery and seduction of a masked ball?
