fall inspiration

Right now, I'm loving sequins, fringe, cozy knits and leather for fall.  I always go for the glam/rocker/boho vibe this time of year, and this year's runways provided just that.  Hope these images inspire you for the upcoming chilly days!

asian chicken salad

This salad isn't super fancy by any means, but since Dan is completely obsessed with it (he claims he'd eat it every night) and it's really easy to whip up, I thought I'd share it.

Sautéed Chicken

Heat olive oil in a pan to medium high heat.
Take 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, and season with your favorite Asian seasoning (I used World Market's Thai Spice).
Cook chicken for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip them, and cook for another 2 - 3 minutes (or until they are no longer pink inside).
Let rest for about 5 minutes, then slice the pieces diagonally.

Asian Dressing

3 cloves of minced garlic
1 teaspoon ginger zest
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
Splash of Sriracha hot sauce
1 teaspoon House of Tsang peanut sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil
A drizzle of honey

Toss chicken and dressing with chopped red peppers, sliced carrots, shelled edemame, and spring mix lettuce.  Garnish with sesame seeds.

fall decor

[I decided to get creative and paint something for our mantle that would pull the living room together]
[One of the many sparkly skulls that serve as some glam yet spooky Halloween decor]
[Fun matchbooks from the local folk art gallery and West Elm]
[A beautiful, vintage book my gorgeous friend, Eleni, gave me for my Birthday]
[More glittery skulls take center stage on the dining room table for October]
[Another sparkly skull to decorate the house for Halloween]

Here are a few changes I've made to the house to freshen things up and bring in the new season.

I love decorating for the holidays, and Halloween is no exception.  Glittery black skulls (I got mine at Kirklands and Target) are a simple and chic way to make your home a bit more spooky.  Also, the city I live in is big on Halloween, so I'm looking forward to picking up a few more eerie accessories from the local folk art gallery this week - I'll keep you updated.

I'm also glad I finally sat down and busted out my painting supplies to do something for the mantle above the fireplace.  The structure and contrast of the paintings really tie the room together with all the random books and chotchkies we have lying around.  Painting also served as a nice, therapeutic experience.. There's something so relaxing about putting on a great album and completely immersing yourself into something.  I really need to do that more often.

lately

[Happy Hours in Tallahassee]
[Finding a old book on a bike ride through the city]

I thought I'd do a big post with some random shots of what's been going on in my life lately.  I was lucky enough to have all my favorite people come into town to celebrate my Birthday;  We filled it with delicious dinners, mimosa-fueled brunches, and topped it off with an amazing Cut Copy show.  I then spent the week in Tallahassee (the old stomping grounds) with Dan while he worked.  It was great to see all our friends and visit some of our old haunts.  We then went up to Atlanta to catch a Widespread Panic show, and, as usual, they did not disappoint.  It's been a wild couple of weeks, but it's good to finally be back home.

p.s.  Lovely Little Vices also had a big day this month - as of October 9th, LLV is officially ONE year old!  My how time flies...

on point

[base coat: essie in sand tropez. accent: sally hansen nail art pen in black]

I recently started playing around with different nail art patterns on my ring finger, and have decided this is my favorite.  Somehow, a plain, light nail color didn't sit right with me, so adding a black, pointy tip made it feel much more edgy without going overboard.  I want to try adding black rhinestones to it next time.  Thoughts?

butterfly gardens

A few photos I took at a beautiful butterfly garden in Hilton Head, South Carolina.  I was mesmerized by them to say the very least.

birthday brunch

[Lush blouse.  F21 vegan leather shorts.  Asos boots.  orYANY bag. Ray-Ban Wayfarers.]

A few photos of the outfit I wore out to brunch for my birthday.  Nothing beats a morning spent laughing with your best friends over mimosas, bloody marys, and eggs benedict.. Hazy perfection.
